Fire Chief's Briefing for October 15 through October 20, 2013

Here is a summary of Brentwood Fire and Rescue’s emergency responses for the period of October 15 through October 20, 2013.

We responded to 34 emergency calls for service.

These calls can be broken down into the following categories:

Fire: 1

EMS/Rescue: 24

Hazardous Condition: 2

Good Intent: 2

False Call: 5

Here is an overview of significant events from this period’s activities:

Friday, October 18 at approximately 5:14 am:

E2 was dispatched on a medical call for a report of a possible heart attack.  E2 arrived on scene and made contact with the patient who was complaining of severe chest pain.  Crew members immediately initiated patient care and E2’s paramedic obtained an EKG.  EMS arrived on scene and patient care was transferred.  BFR personnel assisted EMS with moving the patient to the ambulance and providing further care.  EMS transported the patient emergency traffic to a local hospital and E2 returned to service.

Saturday, October 19 at approximately 1:38 pm:

E3 was dispatched to I-65 on a report of a vehicle fire.  E3 arrived on scene to find one vehicle on the side of the interstate with flames visible from the engine compartment.  Crew members pulled a 1 ¾” attack line and extinguished the fire.  Crew members were able to extinguish the fire before it reached the interior of the vehicle.  The driver of the vehicle indicated that they were driving down the interstate when smoke started coming from the engine compartment.  By the time the driver pulled over flames were visible under the hood.  E11 arrived on scene to assist E3 crew members with clean up.  The engine compartment of the vehicle was reassessed for any further fire.  Once all hazards were addressed E3 and E11 returned to service and quarters.

BFR Takes Delivery of New Fire Engine

*****PRESS RELEASE*****

CITY OF BRENTWOOD
FIRE AND RESCUE

From:             Fire Chief Brian Goss

Subject:          Press Release:  Brentwood Fire & Rescue Places New Fire Engine in Service

BRENTWOOD FIRE & RESCUE DEPARTMENT TAKES DELIVERY OF NEW FIRE ENGINE

On October 8, 2013, the Brentwood Fire & Rescue Department took delivery of its newest Fire Engine.  Engine 2, a 2013 Rosenbauer Commander, is housed at Fire Station #2 at 1301 Wilson Pike.  The Rosenbauer replaces “old” Engine 2 which has served the City since 2000; well beyond the industry average of ten years.  That apparatus will be rotated into reserve status and remain available for use when a primary Engine is temporarily out-of-service for maintenance or repairs.

The Engine was purchased as part of the City’s long-term apparatus replacement program.  Rosenbauer was chosen for having submitted the lowest and best bid which came in well within the amount budgeted.  While this brand is new to Brentwood, Rosenbauer Firefighting Technology has been manufacturing municipal fire apparatus since 1979 and is currently the largest producer of fire apparatus in the world.  The Rosenbauer Company itself has been in business for over 145 years having begun production of hand-drawn apparatus in Leonding, Austria in 1866.  Brentwood’s Engine was manufactured in Lyon, SD.

Crews have been equipping and training on the new apparatus since its arrival, and Engine 2 was officially placed in service on Monday October 21st.  Within 24-hours it would respond to numerous medical calls as well as two heating-related structure fires.

Brentwood Fire & Rescue takes great pride in the quality of its fleet, which we feel is second to none.  The Department is grateful for a progressive City Administration and City Commission who work diligently to ensure that it is prepared and equipped to serve the citizens of, and visitors to, Brentwood in the most effective way possible.
